40 Books in 2010

Posted by Chris on Dec 1, 2009 in Life |

One of my twelve goals for 2010 is to read 40 books. It’s kind of ridiculous, because I’m a pretty slow reader. But I’m operating on the same principle of my half marathon, if I make a plan and a schedule, I can do a lot of things.

I need a little help picking my 40 books. There are a lot of good books out there, but I want to focus on reading that helps me work toward my goals in church planting, ministry, and leadership. About half of them need to be on audiobook. At least one or two classics, a few biographies, and a handful of mindless novels.

Suggestions?

Mindless novels? Lame! I liked “redeeming love” Francine rivers. Also, I suggest: Made to Stck, Life Together, The Cost of Discipleship, blue Like Jazz, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years, 21 Laws of Leadership, they Like Jesus but not the Church and more

Basically anything by CS Lewis, but I’ll suggest Til we have faces.

Redeeming Love, huh? Reminds me of Donald Miller’s story of leaving a copy of Pride and Prejudice on his bookshelf to impress girls. Probably a good idea, though.

Sampson and the Pirate Monks by Nate Larkin is an amazing biography/ministry book, about struggling with sin, and men discipling each other into real growth/change through intentional brotherhood. It’s also accessible in size and relate-able in content. http://www.samsonsociety.org/

Same Kind of Different as Me is also really good. Autobiographical of a rich white Ft. Worth art dealer and the black homeless man who became his best friend.

City of Ember was a great children’s book that was a fun adventure and an easy read. (Esp. if the movie/trailer hasn’t ruined the mystery for you).

Can any of them be Graphic novels? :-P
