- Scot McKnight makes some unsexy remarks about what the church’s role in social injustice should be in an interview with Austin’s own Shane Blackshear.
- Manic Pixie Dream Girl. This article was such a spot on rebuke for me that I’m still telling people about it a week after I read it.
- You’re on Twitter and not reading @AmishHipster?!
- My buddy Tim over at The Dictionary of Christianese attempts to define “missional”. Only took 7 tries.
- Re-reading The Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen. They don’t make them like they used to.
- Exciting developments at Austin Mustard Seed developments, including a “taster” this Sunday.
- Drinking Japanese Iced Coffee right now. Seriously. Get some.
Archives For friday roundup
- Not much to pass on this week because I’m buried under my final paper for the MAGL.
- Thanks to the help of Geoff Holsclaw, David Fitch, J.R. Rozko and others, 10 Misconceptions about Missional was the biggest post ever on this blog.
- Further thanks to “Jesus Feminist” Sarah Bessey and her delightful Canadian accent, as well as church planter Jessica Clemmer for linking to my post on defining the Missional Church.
- Ed Stetzer and David Fitch have an interesting dialogue going on about mega-Churches and sheep stealing.
- I spent a lot of this week re-reading everything I’ve written over the last two years for the Fuller MAGL.
- Here’s a fascinating interview with highly influential comic book writer Grant Morrison. The man is a poet, spiritualist and punk rocker.
We did a Harlem Shake video at my day job. So did some goats.
- Yesterday, myself and a few of my internet friends responded to Tony Jones questions about the ambiguity around the term missional. They include:
–What we HOPE ‘Missional’ Could Mean by Geoff Holsclaw
–Who isn’t missional? Steven Knight
–What is Missional Anyway?
–I LOVE LABELS Zach Hoag
- Yesterday was also a banner day for Twitter. After a rather odd tweet from boomer-megachurch pastor Rick Warren, a hashtag popped up called #RickWarrenTips. Here’s my contribution:
- I’m turning in two of my final three major papers for the MAGL tonight. Then, a Sabbath.
- I’m keeping an index of what’s being written about Missio Alliance gathering here.
- Cedar fever has made life pretty unbearable in Austin the last three weeks. However, I am surprisingly impressed on how much better I felt after taking these. Placebo or science, I’m just happy to breath.
- One of the best pieces I’ve read for the MAGL is a work of comparative theology by an Indian Christian.
- I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audiobook of Kevin Smith’s Tough Sh*t. If you’ve ever seen any of his films, you know that he set a new standard for crudity. Warned.
- Big liturgical week coming up. Do you find value in Ash Wednesday?
