And we will be who we are
And they’ll heal our scars
Sadness will be far away

Do not let my fickle flesh go to waste
As it keeps my heart and soul in its place
And I will love with urgency but not with haste

Cardboard Safari

My landlord was nice enough to leave us his hunting trophies.  It is the best thing in our house.

Get one a Cardboard Safari.

.

I was spending so much money buying myself iced coffee, I ended up investing in a Toddy Cold Brew Coffee Maker.

After asking around at a few of my favorite coffee shops, I landed on the Meritage, which local roaster Cuvee calls the “the soul of Cuvée Coffee Roasting Company.”  They describe it as “sweet red fruit with a creamy body, malted chocolate & a spicy zinfandel finish.”  I think of it as all the flavor of carmel, without all the sugar.

Here’s how I make it.

You will need:

  1. Mix filtered water and course ground coffee at a ratio of 4 cups of water for ever 6 ounces.
  2. Cover and brew for 24 hours.
  3. Pop out the cork and let it filter.
  4. Cut it with water, at a minimum of a 1 to 1 ratio.
  5. Serve over ice on a hot afternoon.
If it’s already gotten cold where you’re at, try mixing the concentrate with hot water for the smoothest americano you’ve had in awhile.

sportsnight1-1The critically panned by undeniably enjoyable Aaron Sorkin dramedy Newsroom just doesn’t have enough episodes yet to satisfy.  But don’t worry, Newsroom is nothing but a self-important reincarnation of Sorkin’s short lived classic Sports Night.  It’s all on Netflix, and if you have no self-control, you could probably watch the whole thing this week instead of sleeping (at least that’s what I did.)

Every Wednesday, I’ll post a short explanation of whatever I’m obsessed with this week.

In Moonwalking with Einstein, American National Memory Champion Joshua Foer describes his trick for remembering names.  When you meet someone new, immediate conjure up an over-the-top mental image to go with it.  For instance, last week I met a gentlemen named “Kristian Matthews.” As quickly as I could I tried to match his face with the two following images:

Kristian

Matthews

A week later, I still remember it.  Give it a try.
