Heard a lecture a while back about how church leaders tend to produce ‘mules’ who work hard and long and unspectacularly, doing boring service work in the organization, rather than producing ‘stallions’ who can do amazing things, because the stallions just might be able to out-run them. I do have a certain amount of doubt regarding the ceo-style leadership of so many churches though. Not that a lead-pastor is necessarily always a bad thing to have, but why have we assumed it as a required norm?
