I happen to have a nice road bike, so it would be pretty smooth, except my office is a full 30 miles away by bycicle. It might be a good way to train for the Tour de France, but I think it would take 2 hrs each way, which is a big chunk of the day.

I think it was very wise in your case, though (if you need to hear that, I don’t know) and I remember my family planning road trips from Dallas to San Antonio based on the time we would hit Austin traffic. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Also, bike maintenance is a lot cheaper/easier/more fun than auto maintenance. :) Just remember to lube a squeaky chain and check for wear/replace it at the proper times (or you’ll be replacing your rear cassette also).
