I often ask myself, why is it that I’m still at while other people are not. I don’t have a satisfactory answer.

Can I trust the truth that Jesus saves me? Can I trust that Jesus is good and just despite my life circumstances? Can I trust that Jesus wants me to be his hands and feet in my community–to minister to the churched and unchurched? I would venture to say that there’s a fair share beyond 20-something are also grasping with these questions.

Also, in looking at those who I grew up with in youth group, we’re all still active in our respective churches, and I think it’s because we saw our parents serving in the church, so we are now, too. So, maybe another thing 20-somethings (and beyond) are looking for is experience–that I serve the church because the body of Christ is important to me.

Everything I read talks about how churches are drawing from an shrinking market share. My experience and gut feeling is that each big city has two or three of these large attractional gatherings. They tend to be made up of recent transplants to the city, and the “cream of the crop” from smaller dying churches around town. If the numbers (and my experience is true), 80% of kids that grow up in church don’t come back. What you’re describing is the 20% gathered from across a metropolitan area.

In the mean time, we are loosing the majority, and ignoring the non-churched altogether.

And never the twain shall meet (at least not in church).
