I hear it more in a Romans 8:28, God is working this out, even with everything I’ve done to screw it up! More than anything I think of it as a Genesis 3/Lenten “dust you are, and to dust you shalt return.”

It’s the warm-fuzzy side of the “sovereignty of God” (at least in my head), that “he who began a good work in you will be faithful to carry it to completion on the day of Christ Jesus;” that “those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.” (Phil 1:6, Rom 8:29). It’s not ultimately up to us.

I like how this song ties it back to the imagery of original creation. God, the creator, is actively creating beauty in us, despite the lack of it in us or our circumstances.

God is making a beautiful thing out of you, Chris.

This song is “in my head,” because I find the promise an anchor of hope in a tumultuous time. Sometimes it’s hard to see and even harder to believe. So I play the song and let it be my prayer.

You want nothing more than for God to make something beautiful out of you? You want to see where God is making beautiful things?
