I am so not like you, but I am very enriched by who you are.  I have to confess, I had to do some research to be sure that what I thought a hipster was is really what hipsters are.  Hip on, man.  Hip on!

I pretty much agree with everythin you said. I am also looking for NMH tix. Thank you.

I promise that if you are ever in ATX and visit our little church community, we have much less jargon.

That’s because Neutral Milk is better than just about anything else ever. (Oh, and he’ll be here in Austin next month!)

2. Definitely higher quality stuff on that side of the aisle.

3. There is one strand of hipsterdom that makes ties okay: #menswear. Yes, some of us are a little obsessed with clothes. Oh, and a nice silk grenadine goes with everything.

4. I think there’s an argument for alcohol to be avoided because of the pain it causes. I see AA groups helping people, and beer companies making money off misery. Just saying this is a reasonable stance. To each his own, and of course, moderation is important.

5. Religion is tricky. I’m scared that even if someone only disagrees with 1% of what I believe, it’s threatening to both of us. Tendency is to just leave it alone.

6. We definitely see what we want to see, but as long as we try to be conscious of it, maybe we can move toward more truth.

7. I barely understand any of this. I wish you good luck.

Now some would reply by saying that Jesus did not tell everyone to sell their stuff. But I think you’re on to something.

Have you thought about what specifically might separate you?

We all tend to fall into those traps whichever sub-culture we find ourselves most comfortable in. It’s part of why I like to think about the Church International. If it’s important it should be important in a wall-less thatch-pavilion church, or a persecuted house church.
Incarnation is really hard. It’s just too easy to stay safe and comfortable. I’m starting to wonder if that’s not why Jesus told the rich young man to sell everything though. Step one of being incarnational is giving away what separates you from your neighbors? (I have a looong way to go…)
