The whole “sacrifice the first hour” and “go to sleep well” really resonates with me. I gave up facebook for Lent because I realized that was causing a lot of “crazy” in my own life. I love being connected with my friends, and as a stay at home mom it’s a wonderful tool to stay in touch when I can’t get out of the house. But it was consuming me. I was checking it first thing in the morning before I got out of bed, spent time posting meaningless stuff during the day, and fretting over a comment my mother-in-law made on a friend’s post before I went to bed. Giving up facebook for this period of time has allowed me to have more time for reflective thought, prayer, study, and quite honestly, my life. I’ve had more time to run my cake business, blog, meet up with friends, and spend quality time with my daughter and husband since I’ve been “off the grid”. I love it so much- I might not go back.

ChrisMorton82 I hear you. I wasn’t saying it’s easy (hence the “we constantly forget”.) Seems like The Way is pretty seldom about flipping switches. More like persistent, intentional, relational dependence.

ollwenjones I agree in concept, but I’m only starting to learn what that means for my life. There’s not a switch I’ve learned to flip. These are some ideas that help me, but I’ve got a long ways to go.

“God is in control, so I don’t have to be.” I think it’s a quote from Tim Chester, but also that obvious truth which we constantly forget.
