Comment on Four Questions to Ask Before Condemning Refugees (or Governors) by Chanjcm https://www.chrismorton.info/2015/11/19/four-questions-to-ask-before-condemning-refugees-or-governors/#comment-11544 Fri, 20 Nov 2015 01:02:34 +0000 http://www.chrismorton.info/?p=5890#comment-11544 Thank you for your thoughtful piece.
Just wanted to comment and maybe add a bit of nuance.
I absolutely agree that the Jesus way to defeat ISIS is to, as local communities of Christ followers, care and love the refugees.
Jesus persuaded with love and truth, and he offered/offers everyone the choice to follow him or not.
As for Christians, we too have the ability to show the Jesus way with our love, acts of kindness and mercy, and truth speaking. We persuade by living life with others to bear witness to the power of Christ living in our lives that gives us the ability to love others without giving in to fear.
I don’t think it is our responsibility/duty to convert others, nor is it wise to think it is; it is the Spirit’s work to change the heart…while we of course do our part to love and bring the gospel. I mention this for fear that we forget that people are not projects, but rather God’s image-bearers regardless of faith, creed, or lifestyle. People to love, not people to convert…
Anyway, this response probably reveals more of where I’m at than any actual critique of your article. Again, thank you for your thoughtful post!!

Comment on Top Ten Things the Church SHOULD Be Talking About by AaronWesterfield https://www.chrismorton.info/2014/05/12/top-ten-things-the-church-should-be-talking-about/#comment-11476 Sun, 20 Sep 2015 21:11:07 +0000 http://www.chrismorton.info/?p=5558#comment-11476 Holy Spirit is still around with the gifts. When the Wird says these things will pass when the perfect comes: is referring to a person. Which would be the 2nd coming of Christ.

Just to stick my nose in here (two years late,) most of these songs aren’t “new and better.” They’re very old hymns that are being newly realized by a generation that desperately needs the authentic dependence on Christ taught in so many of the old hymns. People were once much less self-sufficient and realized more clearly their true need for Christ. So, I agree that “a song can’t do [the Holy Spirit’s] job on its own,” but I would offer that the presence of the Holy Spirit was real to the writers of those hymns in ways that we, as first world citizens, don’t experience as often (our fault, not His.) And I’m speaking in generalities, not in individualities. Agree? Disagree?
